U8 Team @ Baltimore Coach Pitch Tournament

A weekend in booming Baltimore, Ohio. 4 Team round robin format. Best record after 3 games wins. Trophies for first and second place.

First game Friday against the Northridge Vikings. Gahanna plated 1 in the top of the first. Northridge pushed across 4, 4-1 Northridge after 1. No more runs socred in the game. A very quick emotionless 4-1 loss. Next game Saturday vs Baltimore Lions at 10:00am.

Second game against Baltimore was a very different story. Gahanna busted out the bats and whopped Baltimore 23-3. The third game against Southwest Licking Warriors Was going into the top of the 3rd inning with Gahanna up 3-1 when the skies opened up and put the park under water. We were done for the day. all 4 teams thought it was silly to drive all the way back to play 4 innings and then go back home. Northridge was 2-0 and Gahanna and Southwest Licking were 1-1 after 2 games. Gahanna was awarded 2nd place. Next weekend, final tournament at Groveport.

Gahanna U8 Coach Pitch Tournament

One of my favorite weekends of the year. I get to run the Gahanna U8 Coach Pitch Tournament at Academy Park. A long weekend of hard work, but soooo worth it. We had 6 teams last year and this year we jumped to 12. 3 game guarantee. 2 Pool games each and then single elimination.

Gahanna drew a good Plain City team first under the lights Friday night. Plain City showed why they finished 3rd in the Teays Valley tournament by winning 10-1. Next up Saturday morning was another Lions squad, this one from Bexley. A close game that Gahanna pulled out 10-5. The 1-1 record and the 15 runs allowed gave Gahanna the #4 seed and a first round bye in elimination.

Sunday morning the #5 seed Crossroads team came and the Lions played great defense and knocked them off to move into the semifinals against #1 seed New Albany. This was a close game, a couple keys hits in the top of the 6th and the Lions prevailed 7-6 to move into the championship against #2 seed Plain City.

The championship game was a carbon copy of the Friday night game. The Pioneers played great defense and put together a few rallys. The Lions could not dent the plate. Final 10-0. A great tournament for the boys (3-2). 2nd place out of 12 teams and some hardware to boot! Next weekend at a tournament in Baltimore, OH.

Teays Valley Tournament Games 2 and 3 Lions vs Obetz & Lions vs Chillicothe Orange Crush

Sunday brought great weather for baseball after the monsoon of Saturday. First up was Obetz. Hillbilly chattering by Obetz did not bother the Lions. They run ruled them 14-5 and advanced.

Next up was the #3 seed Orange Crush of Chillicothe. Never been a more fitting name for a team. They could flat hit! Smooth with the gloves also. Gahanna never got going and The Orange Crush cruised to a 16-1 win in 3 innings.

2-1 in their first tournament (First ever for many of these boys). Great job Lions!
Now this week we host the Gahanna Tournament.

U8 Tournament Team Teays Valley Tournament Game 1 Lions vs Teays Valley

Griffin's first taste of tournament baseball tonight. Down in Ashville at the Teays Valley tournament. Really did not know what to expect. The one scrimmage they have had went pretty bad. This game got off to a rough start as the Vikings took a 9-3 on the Lions after 2 innings. But the Lions bat exploaded for 6 in the 3rd, 5 in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th to run rule Teays Valley 17-9. Griffin played right field once and caught twice. He was 1 for 2 including.....

PROUD DAD MOMENT!!!....

Wait for it...

A 2 Run Home Run in the 4th inning. Thought I might cry! Next game tomorrow against New Albany.

Game #41 American Conference Championship Lions vs Hilliard Panthers

Last game of the season. A rematch against the Hilliard Panthers for the U10 COYBL American Conference Championship. Lions come in 26-13-1, Panthers record is 22-14. The teams met back on May 7th with the Lions winning 10-8. Hilliard used 7 successful bunts to keep the game close then. Needless to say, we spent about an hour on bunt coverage at practice on Tuesday night.

The weather was perfect and Cael Baker got off to a great start getting Panthers out 1,2,3 in the top of the first. The Lions jumped all over Hilliard, scoring 6 in the bottom half. Cael kept rolling on the mound (only allowing 2 hits over 4 innings). The Lions added 2 in the 2nd, and 2 in the 4th to win by run rule 10-0. What a fabulous way to end a great season. 27-13-1, Division and Conference Champions!!

Can't wait for 2010!!!!!!!!

Game #40 Sylvania Tourney Game 4 Lions vs Dearborn Knights (Michigan)

Kind of a bummer mood. Seemed like the two things the Lions needed to happen to make this a win and qualify for the semifinals was sure to happen. Two of the elite teams just needed to win and we win our game and we were set. The Olentangy Pride were already in the semifinals and saved some of their pitching. They lost 6-4 so we were eliminated. Still the boys went out and gave it their all. One bad inning did them in. Falling 9-8. A fun weekend at the hotel kept the overall mood up and was a memorable trip. The Lions now stand 26-13-1. One game left Thursday at Academy Park against the Hilliard Panthers for the conference championship.

Game #39 Sylvania Tournament Game 3 Lions vs Ohio Diamondhawks

Without a doubt, the best game the Lions have played this year. The best team that had faced all year. The boys jumped out with 3 runs in the top of the first. You could see the surprise in the Diamondhawks faces when we went up 11-4. Unfortunately the Lions bats went silent after the 3rd inning and the Diamondhawks kept on hitting. The Lions fell 1 run short 12-11. So proud of the boys! Next game Saturday evening against the Dearborn Knights.

Game 38 Sylvania Tournament Game #2 Lions vs Sylvania Copperheads

Second tournament game vs a local team. The Lions bats exploded for 16 runs and cruised to a 16-4 run rule victory. Jackson and Jarod pitched great. Cameron had one hit. Next game Friday against the Elite State Champs Ohio Diamondhawks with their 51-3 record.

Game 37 Sylvania Tournament Game 1 Vs Anthony Wayne Jr Generals

First game in our out of town tournament. The boys appeared to be sleep walking. Fell behind 8-2, but battled back to get a tie 8-8. Cameron struggled with his control the first 2 2/3 innings. Next game later Thursday against the Sylvania Copperheads.
